Bands can share a private storage room for drum kits, amplifiers, PA speakers, guitars, keyboards, cables, lighting and merchandise. Keep power banks, spare lithium batteries, sprays and machine fluids out. Clean instruments, loosen strings slightly, remove batteries, use hard cases with silica gel and keep gear off the floor. Mark owners' items, keep a load-out log and agree how costs are split. Self Storage India offers private, lockable rooms with 24/7 CCTV, regular pest control and monthly plans with no lock-in.

Bands and musicians in Delhi NCR collect a lot of gear: drum kits, amplifiers, speakers, keyboards, cables, stands, cases and merchandise. Rehearsal studios charge by the hour and rarely let you leave equipment behind, and a flat in Noida or Gurugram fills up quickly when four band members share one drummer's living room. A private storage room gives the band a fixed place to keep shared gear between rehearsals and gigs, so nobody has to hold everything at home. This guide explains what a band can store, how to protect instruments from Delhi's heat and monsoon damp, and how to manage shared access fairly.
Why do bands need shared storage?
- Gear is bulky. Drum kits, cabinets and PA speakers take up a full room at home.
- Members live apart. A central room means gear isn't stuck at one person's flat.
- Rehearsal spaces don't store gear. Most studios expect you to bring and take everything.
- Gigs need quick loading. Packing from one room is faster than collecting from three homes.
- Neighbours and family. Storing loud, heavy kit away from home keeps the peace.

How should instruments be prepared for storage?
Wipe every instrument to remove sweat and dust, because salts and grime attract moisture. Loosen guitar and bass strings slightly, but don't remove them completely, so the neck keeps its normal tension. Remove batteries from active pickups, pedals, wireless packs and keyboards, since a leaking battery can damage the circuit. Put instruments in hard cases where you can, with a silica gel pack inside. Our guide to storing musical instruments covers individual instruments in more detail.
How should a drum kit be stored?
Take the kit down fully. Store shells in padded bags or cases, with smaller drums nested inside larger ones only if they are padded apart. Keep cymbals in a cymbal bag, standing upright rather than stacked loose, so the edges don't get bent. Bag hardware, such as stands, pedals and thrones, separately, because metal parts can scratch shells. Keep everything off the floor on a pallet or shelf.
How should amps and PA gear be stored?
Let amplifiers and speakers cool down before packing them after a gig. Cover them with breathable dust covers rather than plastic, which can trap moisture. Store them upright in their normal playing position and don't stack heavy cabinets more than two high. Coil cables over-under so they don't kink and keep them in labelled bags by length or type. Valve amps are sensitive to knocks, so pad them well.
How should keyboards and electronics be stored?
Keyboards, synths, mixers, audio interfaces and wireless systems need a little more care than acoustic gear. Unplug everything, remove batteries and pack each unit in its original box or a padded case. Store keyboards flat or on their back as the maker suggests, never standing on one end for months. Keep power adapters in a labelled bag with the unit they belong to, because mismatched adapters can damage electronics. Put mixers and interfaces in sealed bags with silica gel, and keep all electronics on a shelf rather than the floor. Power each item up every few months to check it still works.
How do you protect gear from heat and monsoon damp?
Delhi NCR's summers are hot and the monsoon brings high humidity, which is hard on wood, glue joints, drum heads and electronics. Keep instruments in cases, add silica gel packs and replace them before the monsoon. Don't leave gear in a parked car on a summer afternoon, even briefly. Visit regularly during the wet months to check for any sign of damp. Read our tips on protecting stored items from monsoon damp.
How should the room be organised?
Arrange the room around how you load out. Keep gig essentials, such as cables, stands, mics and pedals, near the door in labelled crates. Put big items, such as cabinets and drum cases, along the back wall on pallets. Leave a clear path so you can reach everything without unpacking the room. Keep a printed list on the inside of the door showing what is where, and a load-out checklist for gigs. See our guide on storage unit layout.
How do you manage shared access as a band?
With a private, lockable room, you use your own padlock and the band decides who holds the keys. Agree on a simple log for what goes out to a gig and what comes back, so nothing gets left at a venue. Mark each item with an owner's initials, because band members' personal gear and shared gear tend to get mixed up. Agree in writing how the monthly cost is split. Confirm the facility's operating hours and access arrangements with the team before planning late load-ins or load-outs.
Should band gear be insured?
Instruments and PA gear are valuable and some are hard to replace. Make a list with serial numbers, photos and approximate values before you store anything. Insurance can be facilitated through partners, so ask the team about cover for stored goods. Check whether your own policies already cover gear in transit to gigs. Our guide on storage insurance in India explains how cover works.
How much does band storage cost?
Pricing depends on the room size and location you choose. Plans are monthly with no lock-in, which suits bands whose gig schedule changes through the year. Pickup, packing and transport can be arranged through partners at an additional cost. Use the storage calculator to estimate the space your gear needs, or call +91-9090206090 for a quote.
