Photographers and filmmakers in Delhi NCR collect a lot of kit. Light stands, C-stands, softboxes, backdrops and rolls of seamless paper, dollies, sliders, tripods, apple boxes, set props and costumes all take space, and only part of it is needed on any one shoot. A home studio or a shared office fills up fast, and kit stacked in a corridor gets knocked and lost. A private storage room near the studios and locations you use can hold the bulky, less-used gear so your workspace stays usable. This guide covers what to store, how to protect sensitive equipment from Delhi's humidity and how to organise kit so a shoot can be packed quickly.
Why do photographers and filmmakers need storage?
- Bulky grip and lighting. Stands, flags, frames and dollies take far more room than cameras.
- Props and sets. Product, fashion and wedding shoots build up props, furniture and backdrops.
- Seasonal work. Wedding photographers are flat out for part of the year and quiet for the rest.
- Shared crews. Freelancers who pool gear need a neutral place everyone can use.
- Home studios. Working from home leaves little space for both family life and a kit room.

Should cameras and lenses go into storage?
Most photographers keep their main cameras and lenses with them, since they're used on almost every job. Spare bodies and lenses used only now and then can be stored, but humidity is the biggest risk: lens fungus grows in damp, still air and can permanently mark the glass. If you store them, use hard cases with fresh silica gel, keep the cases closed and off the floor, and check them every few weeks, more often in the monsoon. Replace or dry the silica gel when it changes colour. Remove all batteries first. If you are unsure, keep high-value optics with you and store the bulky gear instead.
How should lighting and grip gear be stored?
Collapse stands fully, tighten the knobs lightly and store them in bags or a rack so legs don't tangle. Take bulbs out of continuous lights and pack them in padded boxes. Fold softboxes and umbrellas into their bags only when they're clean and dry. Coil cables over-under, tie them with velcro straps and tag them with their length. Keep sandbags at floor level away from fragile items. Test lights when they come back from a shoot so faults are fixed before the next booking.
How do you store backdrops and seamless paper?
Seamless paper rolls dent and crease easily. Store them upright in their sleeves or in a rack, never lying under other items. Roll fabric and vinyl backdrops around a tube rather than folding them, so they don't show creases on camera. Painted canvas backdrops should be rolled loosely, painted side out, and kept dry. Keep backdrop frames and crossbars together in a labelled bag.
How should props and set pieces be organised?
Group props by shoot type, such as food, product, fashion or wedding, and pack each group as a kit with a code. Wrap glass and ceramics individually. Store small props in clear, labelled crates so you can see what's inside. Keep a photo catalogue of props on your phone, which also helps when planning a shoot with a client. Costumes and fabric should be clean and dry and kept in breathable bags. Our guides to packing decoration pieces and storing event props have more tips.
How do you protect gear from Delhi's humidity?
Delhi NCR's monsoon is hard on electronics, paper and fabric. Keep everything off the floor on shelves or pallets, add silica gel to every case and crate, and keep cases closed. Visit the room before and during the rains to check for signs of damp. Read our tips on monsoon humidity and on storing IT equipment, which apply to monitors, drives and laptops used for editing.
Can you store prints and old media?
Printed portfolios, albums and framed prints can be stored in acid-free boxes, upright and away from heavy items. Hard drives holding past shoots can be boxed and labelled with the dates and clients they hold, but storage is not a backup: always keep a second copy elsewhere. Our guide to storing old photos covers prints and albums.
How do you pack for a shoot quickly?
Keep a packing list for each type of shoot and a code on every bag and case. Store the cases you use most near the door. The day before a shoot, collect the kit and check it against the list. After the shoot, clean and dry gear before it goes back. Always confirm the facility's operating hours and access arrangements with the team before planning an early call time or a late return.
How secure is gear in storage?
With a private, lockable room, you use your own padlock and keep the only key. The facility has 24/7 CCTV and regular pest control. Keep a list of gear with serial numbers and photos, and a log if several crew members share the room. Insurance can be facilitated via partners, which is worth considering for expensive equipment. Read security for business storage.
What does storage for a studio cost?
Pricing depends on the room and location you choose. Plans are monthly with no lock-in, which suits seasonal work. Business customers can get a GST invoice. Pickup, packing and transport can be arranged through partners at an additional cost. Estimate space with the storage calculator and call +91-9090206090 for a quote.
