If you'd rather not hire a tempo and haul everything yourself, you can have your goods picked up from home and taken straight into your storage room. At Self Storage India, we arrange this through our logistics and moving partners across Delhi NCR, at an extra cost on top of storage.
A pickup goes smoothly when the planning is done before the truck arrives. Here's how to plan one.
How does a storage pickup from home work?
You book your storage room and tell our team you'd like pickup. We coordinate with a partner who comes to your door, packs and loads your goods, and transports them into your unit. You can also choose packing and loading help only, or do it all yourself.

What should you do before you book a pickup?
- Make a list of everything going into storage, room by room, and put it through the storage calculator.
- Decide what's not going. Sell, donate or throw out things you won't need. You pay to move and store every item.
- Remove what can't be stored, such as flammables and gas cylinders. Check our storage rules.
- Pick your location: Delhi, Gurugram or Noida.
What details does the team need from you?
When you book your storage unit online or call +91-9090206090, share:
- Your pickup address, floor and whether there's a working lift
- Parking or entry restrictions at your society, and the hours moves are allowed
- Your item list, with heavy, large or fragile pieces called out
- Whether you want packing done for you or have packed already
- Your preferred date and a backup date
The more the team knows upfront, the fewer surprises on the day.
Does your society need to know about the move?
Many housing societies and RWAs have their own rules for moves: allowed hours, lift booking, a gate pass or a note to security. Check with your society office a few days ahead and get any permission you need in writing.
How should you pack if you're doing it yourself?
- Use sturdy boxes and don't overfill them. See our list of wrapping and packing materials.
- Label each box on two sides with its contents and room, and number it on your list.
- Clean and dry appliances first; see storing a fridge, TV and washing machine.
- Keep documents, jewellery and cash with you, not in the boxes.
- Pack a separate bag of things you'll need in the next few days.

Many people do both: pack personal items, books and clothes themselves, and leave furniture, appliances and crockery to the packers.
How should appliances and furniture be prepared before pickup?
- Fridge: empty, defrost and dry it a day before; leave the door open to air.
- Washing machine: drain fully; ask about securing the drum as the manual describes.
- AC units: have them uninstalled by a technician before pickup.
- Beds and wardrobes: decide whether to take them apart yourself or ask the team; bag and label screws.
- TV and electronics: use original boxes if you have them; photograph cable connections.
- Gas cylinders, oil and flammables: these can't be stored, so arrange to return or move them separately.
Why make an inventory before pickup?
A list of what's going, with box numbers and photos of furniture and appliances, helps you check everything on arrival and later on move-out. Note existing scratches or damage. Our storage inventory template makes this quick.
Which areas does pickup cover?
Partner pickup, packing and transport are available across Delhi NCR at an additional cost. Our facilities are in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram. Share your address and the facility you'd like when you ask for a quote.
When should you book pickup?
- Give as much notice as you can, especially around month-end, when many people move.
- Check your society's move timings before fixing a slot.
- Avoid booking pickup on the same day your lease ends, in case of delays.
- In the monsoon, keep plastic sheets ready to cover items between the door and the truck.
What are common mistakes?
- Not defrosting and drying the fridge before pickup.
- Leaving gas cylinders or flammables in the load.
- Forgetting to tell society security about the truck.
- Not having an inventory to check against on arrival.
- Packing valuables and documents with the rest of the goods.

How should boxes be labelled for pickup?
- Number every box and match it to your list.
- Write the room and main contents on two sides.
- Mark FRAGILE and THIS WAY UP where needed.
- Keep a separate "open first" box for things you'll need soon.
What happens after pickup?
Your goods are taken to the facility and placed in your room. Check the list against what arrived, note any damage straight away, and keep a copy of the agreement and inventory at home.
What happens on pickup day?
Be there, or have someone you trust there. Walk the movers through what's going and what's staying. Count items against your list as they're loaded, and again when they're placed in your room. Take photos of furniture before it's wrapped, and of the room once it's packed.
