Many of us are a part of the ‘acquire more, more, more’ race. So much stuff selling in the market and so many of us getting lured in by their shine. The result? A cluttered home that doesn’t feel good. There’s no open space, the desk is never tidy, and memorabilia from years bygone are on the verge of spilling from over-stuffed drawers. If you feel like you’re drowning in clutter and chaos, it’s time to declutter your life and regain control. This blog is on How to declutter your life, follow this to get amazing results.

If you are tired of your or someone else’s talent to acquire stuff and then give it away, then this post is for you. It’s time to adopt the Marie Kondo way and say hello to decluttering.

1. Discard regularly

Multiple times throughout the year, sit down and go through your stuff to see what fits in with your lifestyle and what doesn’t. Discard ruthlessly. Items that you don’t want to part with for sentimental reasons but don’t use much either can go into a self-storage space.

2. Put stuff away

If it is going to take less than 10 minutes, then clear away clutter. You might begin by hanging your coat on the hanger, taking out the trash, and sorting the scattered papers on your desk. The result? Mess kept to a minimum.

3. Live within your means

An excellent (and oft-times difficult) pointer for those who splurge. You can decorate all that you want but only if you aren’t extending your budget. A super-practical way to not collect junk.

4. Keep a junk drawer

Where all the little tidbits like scissors, pencils, tape, stapler etc. go. The drawer will act as a home for the little things which might come in handy every day.

5. Clear hotspots

These are the areas where junk collects regularly. Why? Because it’s much easier to put the item here than on its proper place. Determine these in your own home and come up with a plan to clear these spots. Get a self-storage space if there are things you can’t quite decide where to keep.

6. Create other hotspots

These will take care of your everyday essentials like wallet, your IDs, lip balm, and anything else that you necessarily carry whenever you step out of the house.

7. Decline free stuff

A hard one we know. But, if you want a clean space, you’ll have to pass up on a few free goodies. And in the end, you’ll realize that they weren’t even necessary in the first place.

The above habits and practices can’t be integrated overnight. Give it a month or so and begin with the one that is sure to reap you quick and clear results (be sure to read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo while you are at it). Trust us; you’ll feel a whole lot lighter when you de-clutter your life and open your eyes to a clutter-free home every day.
